Wow our time in Europe went by really fast. We celebrated my Dads 70th birthday, visited my God son in Switzerland, spend quality time with family, had a day of meeting up with friends and supporters at the church building, had time to encourage and share with small groups and others to bring hope to people around them and then the trip ended by seeing a good friend of Jen in Amsterdam. But now we are back in San Francisco and get back on track. Thanks for your prayers!!

Hallo unser Freund/in
Wow unsere Zeit in Europa verging wie im Flug. Wir konnten meinen Papa zu seinem 70. überraschen, mein Patenkind in der Schweiz besuchen, gute Zeit mit Familie verbringen, uns mit Freunden im Gemeindehaus zu treffen, Zeit um andere darin zu ermutigen das auch sie Hoffnung in ihr Umfeld bringen können und zum Schluss noch eine gute Freundin von Jen in Amsterdam zu besuchen. Nun sind wir aber wieder zurück in San Francisco. Wir haben uns gefreut über jeden den wir sehen durften und über jedes Gespräch. Wenn wir dich nicht gesehen haben hoffen wir dass es beim nächsten Mal klappt!!
A little while ago Jen and I watched the movie The straight story. It is a true story about a man who could only walk with his canes and then rode his lawn mower for 240 miles to reconcile with his brother after he found out his brother had a stroke. Along the way he is able to encourage and bring hope to people. Here are 2 things I took away from this film:
This man was not able to get a drivers license because of his eyesight. But it didn’t stop him from doing the right thing even if it looked crazy or impossible. He took what he had and used it. I believe that this is something so important to remember. We don’t always have the perfect lineup for things, but that doesn’t mean we should give up. We need to find the way in the impossible. If God called you to do something he will make a way. Its really important to think outside the box and in that not to worry what others might think about us when we do that.
When he arrives at his brothers’ house after 6 weeks of riding his lawn mower his brother asks him, did you come here driving on this lawn mower? When he said he did his brother has a tear in his eye. It speaks volumes when he did the impossible just to come and see his brother. He didn’t even have to say a word, his brother knew that he truly cared about him and how important the relationship was to him. Its amazing when people see how much we care by our actions. Its often not the words, but many times it is the action that speaks so much louder. It reminds me of Jesus and how he went into the houses of people that were looked down on, not caring about his own image. Just imagine what volumes that spoke to the people he visited.
We want to encourage you and us to live our lives were we make the impossible possible with God. Live a life where we find a way where there is no way. We want to be people of action and of words that follow action.
Let us ask ourselves those questions:
What is holding us back from taking action?
Ask God to help you in that area to move forward and not to give up.
Ask God where you are supposed “to ride your lawn mower to”!

Markus and JenVor einiger Zeit schauten sich Jen und ich den Film „The straight Story eine wahre Geschichte an“. Der Film ist eine wahre Geschichte von einem alten Mann der nur noch mit 2 Krücken gehen konnte und wie er dann auf seinen Rasenmäher 386km weit fährt um sich mit seinem Bruder zu versöhnen der einen Schlaganfall hatte. Während er fährt hat er die Möglichkeit verschiedenste Menschen zu ermutigen und Hoffnung zu ihnen zu bringen. Hier sind 2 Gedanken die ich aus dem Film mitnahm:
Dies Mann konnte keinen Führerschein machen da er schlecht sah. Aber es hielt ihn nicht davon zurück das richtige zu tun selbst wenn es verrückt und unmöglich aussah. Er nahm was er zur Verfügung hatte und benutzte es. Ich denke das dies wichtig ist für jeden von uns dies nicht zu vergessen. Wir haben oftmals nicht die perfekte Ausgangslage, aber dies heißt nicht das wir aufgeben sollen. Wir müssen den Weg im unmöglichen suchen. Wenn Gott dich zu etwas berufen hat macht Er auch den Weg dafür. Es ist auch sehr wichtig manchmal außerhalb der Norm zu denken und uns nicht von dem entmutigen lassen was andere über uns denken.
Als er mit seinem Rasenmäher nach 6 Wochen bei seinem Bruder ankommt fragt ihn dieser ob er mit diesem Rasenmäher hierhergekommen ist? Als er dies bejaht sieht man eine Träne und die Bewegtheit in seinem Bruder. Es spricht unendlich viel zu seinem Bruder das er das unmögliche getan hat nur um seinen Bruder zu sehen. Er musste nicht einmal ein Wort sagen das sein Bruder wusste wie wichtig ihm diese Beziehung ist und wieviel er ihm wert ist. Es ist genial wenn Menschen anhand unserer Aktionen sehen wie sehr wir uns für sie interessieren. Es sind oftmals nicht die Worte die Veränderung bringen, nein Taten sprechen oftmals lauter. Dies erinnert mich an Jesus und an die verschiedensten Menschen die er besucht hat. Viele waren von der Gemeinschaft ausgestoßen oder hatten ein schlechtes Image. Was glaubst du was für einen Wert dies zu diesen Menschen gesprochen hat.
Wir möchten dich und uns ermutigen unser Leben so zu leben das wir das unmögliche möglich machen mit Gott. Lasst uns ein Leben leben, wo wir einen Weg finden wo es keinen Weg gibt. Wir möchten Menschen der Tat sein und Menschen von Worten denen Taten folgen.
Lasst uns diese Fragen stellen:
Was hält uns zurück vom in Aktion zu treten?
Frage Gott das Er dir in diesem Bereich hilft vorwärts zu gehen und nicht aufzugeben.
Stelle Gott die Frage wohin du „deinen Rasenmäher fahren sollst“!

Vergiss nicht den Rasenmäher und wohin er dich tragen soll!!
…For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2. Corinthians 12.10
When we think about the word weakness it is often attached to things that are not so good. But when we look at the verse above it actually says the opposite. When we are weak we are strong. When you read the whole chapter you notice that Paul talks about a weakness in his life and how he asked God to take it away, kind of the logical thing to do. But Gods answer was different then he expected: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So the weaknesses in Paul’s life actually drew him closer to God.
It reminds me of a scene in the movie the Lion King. Simba, a lion cub, goes to a place where he is not supposed to go and he is being attacked by a group of hyenas. While trying to protect his friend he roared at the attackers. But all that comes out is a weak sound. The Hyenas start to make fun of him and ask him to roar again. Out of fear he does, but this time a loud roar shakes the place which scares the Hyenas. The next thing you see is the father of Simba and how the Hyenas run away scared.
That is a great picture of Gods power in our life. When we realize that we cant do it on our own, he is right there. A place of weakness is a place of being humble. When we are humble, pride has to leave in our lives, and when that happens God can move. When we relay on His strength we stay also in an attitude of thankfulness because we realize how much the father loves us and how much He is moving with us. So if we deal with weakness in the right way and it drives us towards the father, weakness actually brings us to a place of strength.
We want to encourage all of us to look in all areas of our life to the father, the giver of strength.
Ask yourself were are your weaknesses?
Did you rely on God in those areas?
How can you start working more from His strength and less of yours?

…Gerade wenn ich schwach bin, bin ich stark! 2. Korinther Brief 12.10
Wenn wir an das Wort Schwäche denken, denken wir oftmals an Dinge die nicht so gut sind. Aber wenn wir den Vers oben anschauen sehen wir wie dieser genau das Gegenteil sagt. Wenn wir schwach sind wir stark. Wenn du das ganze Kapitel liest siehst du das Paulus über eine Schwäche in seinem Leben schreibt und wie er Gott darum bittet diese wegzunehmen, eigentlich eine ganz logische Sache. Aber Gottes Antwort sah anders aus: „Meine Gnade ist alles, was du brauchst! Denn gerade wenn du schwach bist, wirkt meine Kraft ganz besonders an dir.“ Was sehen wir darin, die Schwäche von Paulus brachte ihn näher zu Gott.
Dies erinnert mich an eine Szene aus dem Film König der Löwen. Simba, ein Löwen Baby, geht an einen Ort an den er eigentlich nicht gehen sollte und wird an diesem dann von einer Gruppe Hyänen attackiert. Während er versucht seine Freundin zu beschützen lässt er seinen stärksten Brüller heraus. Aber alles was herauskommt ist ein schwacher Ton. Die Hyänen machen sich über ihn lustig und sagen zu ihm das er nochmal brüllen soll. Aus seiner Angst heraus tut er es aber dieses Mal erschüttert ein lauter Brüller das Tal so dass den Hyänen angst und bange wird. Als nächstes siehst du den Vater von Simba und wie die Hyänen vor Angst weglaufen.
Dies ist ein schönes Beispiel für Gottes Kraft in unserem Leben. Wenn wir feststelle das wir es nicht alleine tun können steht er an unserer Seit. Ein Platz der Schwäche ist ein Platz der Demut. Wenn wir in Demut leben muss Stolz unser Leben verlassen, und wenn dies passiert kann Gott wirken. Wenn wir uns auf seine Stärke verlassen sind wir auch mehr dankbar da wir realisieren wie sehr uns Gott liebt und wieviel Er doch zusammen mit uns wirkt. Wenn nun Schwäche im richtigen Weg sehen und sie uns zum Vater bringt, bringt uns Schwäche zu einem Ort der Stärke.
Wir möchten hiermit uns alle ermutigen in jedem Bereich unseres Lebens zu unserem Vater zu schauen, dem der uns Stärke gibt.
Frag dich selber wo deine Schwächen liegen?
Hast du in diesen Bereichen dein Vertrauen auf Gott gesetzt?
Wie kannst du mehr durch seine Stärke arbeiten und weniger mit deiner eigenen?

Recently I was reading a book which quoted a parable Jesus gave, the one with the wise man who build his house on the rock and the man who build it on sand (Matthew 7.24-27). One thing that really spoke to me was the fact that the storm came to both houses. But the one house stood through the storm the other didn’t.
In 1989 San Francisco had a pretty strong earthquake. One neighborhood in specific is built on landfill and because of that doesn’t have a very solid foundation. When the earthquake hit, all areas of the city felt the shake but the area build on landfill felt it the worst. Part of the freeway collapsed as well as many houses got destroyed.
When you read the parable in Matthew it is really clear that the storm hits both houses pretty hard. We as Christians will face hard times, the bible makes that clear many times. But it also talks about that God is with us in those. So we need to do a checkup and see where our foundation is built on. In which areas do we still have to grow in our trust in Him and in which ones are we more secure? When hard times come we can often see the cracks in our foundation and what things we have to work on. Spend time this week to ask God to show you the areas you have to work with Him on. He is faithful and will show you. We all need a strong foundation in Him because He will never fail us and at the end of the day we all want to be the house that is standing.

Markus and JenVor kurzem las ich ein Buch welches ein Beispiel quotierte das Jesus unterrichtete, die Parabel von dem weisen Mann der sein Haus auf Stein baute und dem Mann der auf San baute (Matthäus 7.24-27). Eine Sache die mich wirklich ansprach war die Tatsache das der Sturm zu beiden Häusern kam. Aber ein Haus überlebte es das andere nicht.
Im Jahr 1989 wurde San Francisco von einem Erbeben geschüttelt. Ein Stadtteil wurde auf aufgefülltem Boden aufgebaut. Als das Erdbeben kam fühlte man das Beben in jedem Teil der Stadt, aber das Gebiet mit dem aufgefüllten Boden fühlte es am stärksten. Teile der Autobahn kollabierten und viele Häuser wurden zerstört.
Wenn du dir die Parabel in Matthäus durchliest geht klar hervor das der Sturm beide Häuser sehr stark trifft. Wir als Christen werden durch schwere Zeiten gehen, die Bibel zeigt dies klar auf. Aber sie sagt auch das Gott in diesen Zeiten bei uns ist. Es ist wichtig dass wir schauen worauf unser Fundament gebaut ist. In welchen Bereichen müssen wir noch in unserem Vertrauen zu ihm wachsen und wo sind wir schon sicherer? Wenn schwere Zeiten kommen sehen wir oftmals die Risse in unserem Fundament und woran wir weiter arbeiten müssen. Verbringe diese Woche Zeit mit Gott und bitte ihn dir diese Risse zu zeigen und mit dir daran zu arbeiten. Er ist treu und wird sie dir zeigen! Wir brauchen alle ein starkes Fundament in Ihm da Er uns nie verlassen wird und wir wollen doch alle am Ende in dem Haus sein das stehen blieb!!

Last week we wrote about the movie Chariots of fire and I want to elaborate a little bit more on that. Again it was 2 runners that both ran in the Olympics. Eric was born to parents who were missionaries, but he felt God gave him this gift of running. So he decided to run for Gods Glory. He decided that the area in which he was really good at he would be able to bring the Gospel in a new way by living it right there. He used that gift that God gave him in a nontraditional ministry setting. But reality is we should never separate sacred and secular.
A job as a missionary or a Pastor is not more sacred then working in business or in any other job. When we separate the two we make one job more valuable than the other and with that one person becomes the one to look up to and the other the one to look down on. But reality is that each job done for the Glory of God is valuable. Do you think Paul was less valuable as a man of God when he made tents then when he preached? He was as valuable because he was doing things for the Kingdom of God. He was providing places for people to be save from the weather. And I am sure he was able to share with many tent makers about his faith while making the tent. He would have not been able to share with them if he would have not made tents and use the gift God gave Him in this area.
And that is also a reality for any job. God has given you gifts, use them. He gave it to you to bring His Kingdom into this world (on earth as it is in Heaven). It does not matter where you work but it matters why you do it. A Sports man, a movie maker, a CEO, a Cleaner, an Artist, a worker at Mc Donalds and so on, who is using his gifting to bring Glory to God has the same importance as the Pastor who preaches to his church or a missionary who reaches a tribe in Brazil. The importance is to live our faith in whatever place God placed us.
I want to encourage you today that what you do for the Kingdom in your workplace is as important and valuable as the work people do in more traditional ministry jobs.
Ask Him this week to show you how important it is what you do!
Ask Him to show you how to use the gifting’s he gave you in an even more powerful way in your workplace!

We hope you had an amazing week!! We wrapped up everything last week before we head out to Europe surprising my Dad for his 70th birthday. Please pray for all the things in north beach while we are gone. Pray for Bethany who will be running everything while we are gone. Also pray for a good start for Josia a relative of mine who will help out for the rest of the summer! Thank you for all your prayers!!

Letzte Woche schrieben wir über den Film die Stunde des Siegers und ich möchte diese Woche dieses noch ein wenig ausbauen. Es ging um 2 Läufer in dem Film die in den Olympischen Spielen antraten. Eric war der Sohn einer Missionars Familie, aber er hatte das Gefühl das Gott ihm die Gabe des Rennens gegeben hat. Deshalb beschloss er zu Ehre Gottes zu rennen. Er beschloss dass er in dem Bereich in dem er sehr gut war er, er das Evangelium auf einem neuen Weg bringen konnte indem er es lebte. Er benutzte diese Gabe in einem nicht so traditionellen geistlichen Amt. Aber die Realität ist das wir das geistliche und weltliche nicht kategorisieren sollten.
Der Beruf des Pastors oder des Missionars ist nicht mehr geistlich als wenn wir in einer Firma oder einem anderen Beruf arbeiten. Wenn wir diese 2 teilen, machen wir den einen Job wertvoller als den anderen und wir kreieren eine Kultur indem wir zum einen aufschauen und zum anderen hinunterschauen. Aber die Realität ist das jeder Beruf den wir zur Ehre Gottes tun ist wertvoll. Glaubst du Paulus war weniger wertvoll als Mann Gottes als er Zelte machte und nicht predigte? Er war beides mal wertvoll weil er Dinge für das Königreich Gottes tat. Er kreierte Schutz für Menschen vor dem Wetter. Und ich bin mir sicher dass er oftmals mit anderen Zelt Machern über seinen Glauben reden konnte. Dies wäre ihm wahrscheinlich nicht möglich gewesen wenn er nicht die Gaben die ihm Gott ihm in diesem Bereich gab benutzt hätte.
Und dies ist auch wahr für jeden Beruf. Benutze die Gaben die Gott dir gab. Er gab sie dir um Sein Königreich auf dieses Welt zu bringen (wie im Himmel so auf Erden). Es ist egal wo du arbeitest, aber es ist wichtig wieso du es tust. Ein Sportler, ein Film Direktor, ein Chef, eine Putzhilfe, ein Künstler, ein Arbeiter bei Mc Donalds usw. jeder der seine Gabe zur Ehre Gottes benutzt hat die gleiche Wichtigkeit wie ein Pfarrer der in seiner Gemeinde predigt oder ein Missionar der Stämme in Brasilien erreicht. Das wichtige ist unseren Glauben zu leben an jeden Ort an den uns Gott gestellt hat!
Wir möchten dich heute damit ermutigen das was du für Gottes Königreich in deinem Beruf tust genauso wichtig ist wie die Arbeit von Menschen in traditionelleren Missionsbereichen!!
Bitt Gott darum dir zu zeigen wie wichtig es ist was du tust!
Bitt ihn darum dir zu zeigen wie du deine Gaben noch stärker in deinem Beruf einbringen kannst!
