what you do mattersLast week we wrote about the movie Chariots of fire and I want to elaborate a little bit more on that. Again it was 2 runners that both ran in the Olympics. Eric was born to parents who were missionaries, but he felt God gave him this gift of running. So he decided to run for Gods Glory. He decided that the area in which he was really good at he would be able to bring the Gospel in a new way by living it right there. He used that gift that God gave him in a nontraditional ministry setting. But reality is we should never separate sacred and secular.

A job as a missionary or a Pastor is not more sacred then working in business or in any other job. When we separate the two we make one job more valuable than the other and with that one person becomes the one to look up to and the other the one to look down on. But reality is that each job done for the Glory of God is valuable. Do you think Paul was less valuable as a man of God when he made tents then when he preached? He was as valuable because he was doing things for the Kingdom of God. He was providing places for people to be save from the weather. And I am sure he was able to share with many tent makers about his faith while making the tent. He would have not been able to share with them if he would have not made tents and use the gift God gave Him in this area.

And that is also a reality for any job. God has given you gifts, use them. He gave it to you to bring His Kingdom into this world (on earth as it is in Heaven). It does not matter where you work but it matters why you do it. A Sports man, a movie maker, a CEO, a Cleaner, an Artist, a worker at Mc Donalds and so on, who is using his gifting to bring Glory to God has the same importance as the Pastor who preaches to his church or a missionary who reaches a tribe in Brazil. The importance is to live our faith in whatever place God placed us.

I want to encourage you today that what you do for the Kingdom in your workplace is as important and valuable as the work people do in more traditional ministry jobs.

Ask Him this week to show you how important it is what you do!
Ask Him to show you how to use the gifting’s he gave you in an even more powerful way in your workplace!

We hope you had an amazing week!! We wrapped up everything last week before we head out to Europe surprising my Dad for his 70th birthday. Please pray for all the things in north beach while we are gone. Pray for Bethany who will be running everything while we are gone. Also pray for a good start for Josia a relative of mine who will help out for the rest of the summer! Thank you for all your prayers!!

Remember that you are significant and what you do makes a difference in this world!!

was du tustLetzte Woche schrieben wir über den Film die Stunde des Siegers und ich möchte diese Woche dieses noch ein wenig ausbauen. Es ging um 2 Läufer in dem Film die in den Olympischen Spielen antraten. Eric war der Sohn einer Missionars Familie, aber er hatte das Gefühl das Gott ihm die Gabe des Rennens gegeben hat. Deshalb beschloss er zu Ehre Gottes zu rennen. Er beschloss dass er in dem Bereich in dem er sehr gut war er, er das Evangelium auf einem neuen Weg bringen konnte indem er es lebte. Er benutzte diese Gabe in einem nicht so traditionellen geistlichen Amt. Aber die Realität ist das wir das geistliche und weltliche nicht kategorisieren sollten.

Der Beruf des Pastors oder des Missionars ist nicht mehr geistlich als wenn wir in einer Firma oder einem anderen Beruf arbeiten. Wenn wir diese 2 teilen, machen wir den einen Job wertvoller als den anderen und wir kreieren eine Kultur indem wir zum einen aufschauen und zum anderen hinunterschauen. Aber die Realität ist das jeder Beruf den wir zur Ehre Gottes tun ist wertvoll. Glaubst du Paulus war weniger wertvoll als Mann Gottes als er Zelte machte und nicht predigte? Er war beides mal wertvoll weil er Dinge für das Königreich Gottes tat. Er kreierte Schutz für Menschen vor dem Wetter. Und ich bin mir sicher dass er oftmals mit anderen Zelt Machern über seinen Glauben reden konnte. Dies wäre ihm wahrscheinlich nicht möglich gewesen wenn er nicht die Gaben die ihm Gott ihm in diesem Bereich gab benutzt hätte.

Und dies ist auch wahr für jeden Beruf. Benutze die Gaben die Gott dir gab. Er gab sie dir um Sein Königreich auf dieses Welt zu bringen (wie im Himmel so auf Erden). Es ist egal wo du arbeitest, aber es ist wichtig wieso du es tust. Ein Sportler, ein Film Direktor, ein Chef, eine Putzhilfe, ein Künstler, ein Arbeiter bei Mc Donalds usw. jeder der seine Gabe zur Ehre Gottes benutzt hat die gleiche Wichtigkeit wie ein Pfarrer der in seiner Gemeinde predigt oder ein Missionar der Stämme in Brasilien erreicht. Das wichtige ist unseren Glauben zu leben an jeden Ort an den uns Gott gestellt hat!

Wir möchten dich heute damit ermutigen das was du für Gottes Königreich in deinem Beruf tust genauso wichtig ist wie die Arbeit von Menschen in traditionelleren Missionsbereichen!!

Bitt Gott darum dir zu zeigen wie wichtig es ist was du tust!
Bitt ihn darum dir zu zeigen wie du deine Gaben noch stärker in deinem Beruf einbringen kannst!

Wir hoffen das du eine super Woche hattest!! Wir machten alles fertig bevor wir uns nach Europa aufmachen um meinen Vater zu seinem 70. Geburtstag zu überraschen. Bitte bete weiterhin für die Arbeit in North Beach während wir nicht hier sind. Betet für Bethany die alles am Laufen hält während wir weg sind. Betet auch für einen guten Anfang für Josia, einen Verwandten von mir, der für den restlichen Sommer hier aushilft! Vielen Dank fürs mitbeten!!

Vergiss diese Woche nicht das du wichtig und wertvoll bist und das das was du tust einen Unterschied in dieser Welt macht!!

Why do you do what you do? Wieso tust du was du tust?

why do you doRecently Jen and I watched the movie Chariots of Fire. It is a true story about 2 runners that both won in the Olympics in 1924. But the reason why they ran was totally different. One ran for proving to himself that he is worthy. The other ran to bring Glory to God and win for His name. It was inspiring to see how it played out for both. One was totally joyful in what he does and the other was totally just focused on the success.

This is a good picture for all of us. Are we getting our value out of what we do or do we do it to bring Glory to God? It was amazing to see the amount of people this Christian runner impacted just by the fact that he did what he was really good in and also by living the principles he believed in. But he did all of it because he loved god. Whatever you do in life make sure your focus is right. We can do good things for the wrong reasons. Its important for all of us to ask ourselves the question why we do what we do. It doesn’t matter if you are working at a company, are a Pastor or any other job the question is important for each one of us! When we do it out of a love for God our attitude is different and it will show people more of the love of the father. So ask yourself the question Why do i do what i do???

We had a wonderful Staff Retreat last week. It was a great time to spend time with the bigger YWAM Family of the Bay area. We felt encouraged by the things God is doing in all the different places and got refreshed by different Stories and Testimonies. We want to encourage you to connect with a few friends weekly to share about the good things that happened in your life and the things God is doing. It will really encourage you!

Pray this week for the upcoming election season. Pray for Gods peace and that relationships won’t be destroyed by different opinions.

Don’t forget to ask yourself why you do what you do!

Markus and Jenwieso tust du wasVor kurzem schauten sich Jen und ich den Film Die Stunde des Siegers an. Es ist eine wahre Geschichte von 2 Läufern die beide in den Olympischen Spielen von 1924 gewonnen haben. Aber ihre Gründe und Ziele waren total unterschiedlich. Einer der beiden wollte sich beweisen dass er wert hat und lief deshalb. Der andere lief um Ehre zu Gottes Namen zu bringen und für ihn zu gewinnen. Es war inspirierend zu sehen wie es für beide endete. Einer war total glücklich in dem was er tat und der andere legte seinen Fokus nur auf den Erfolg.

Dies ist ein gutes Beispiel für jeden von uns. Bekommen wir unseren Wert von dem was wir tun oder tun wir was wir tun zur Ehre Gottes? Es war genial zu sehen wie viele Menschen dieser Läufer inspirierte indem er tat was er gut konnte und indem er die Prinzipien seines Glaubens lebte.  Aber er tat es aus seiner Liebe für Gott. Was auch immer du im Leben tust, stelle sicher das dein Fokus richtig ist. Wir können gute Dinge für die falschen Gründe tun. Es ist wichtig das wir uns die Frage stellen wieso tun wir was wir tun? Es ist egal ob du in einer Firma arbeitest, als Pfarrer oder jedem anderem  anderen Arbeitsbereich, es ist wichtig für jeden einzelnen von uns! Wenn wir etwas tun aus Liebe zu Gott haben wir eine andere Einstellung dazu und Menschen können mehr die Liebe des Vaters in uns sehen. Und nun stell dir die Frage Wieso mache ich was ich mache??

Wir hatten letzte Woche eine wunderbare Mitarbeiterfreizeit. Es war schön Zeit mit der restlichen YWAM Familie aus dem Bay Area zu verbringen. Wir fühlten uns ermutigt von den Geschichten von den Dingen die Gott in den verschiedenen Bereichen tut. Wir möchten dich ermutigen dich einmal pro Woche mit Freunden darüber auszutauschen was Gutes passiert ist und was Gott tut. Es wird dich wirklich ermutigen!

Bete diese Woche auch für unsere Politiker die täglich schwere Entscheidungen treffen müssen. Betet für Gottes Weisheit für sie!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Philippians 4.13

Run on his strengthWhen I read this verse I feel inspired. Paul a man who wrote half of the new testament, a man who pushed a mission movement forward that changed the world, a man who went through really hard seasons and persecution  and didn’t give up tells us how he was able to do it. It was not on his own strength, but it was in the strength of Christ that he was able to succeed. He never walked through life alone, but he put his trust in Jesus. How did he do it? He realized that if he trusts just in his own abilities he would never been able to fulfill the great things God has planned for his life.

After he had an encounter with Jesus on the Road to Damascus it flipped his life upside down. Many would say it was this moment that transformed his life and made him state that he can do all things through him. I think it was this moment, but more important all the moments that followed after when he felt the body of Christ around him encouraging him and helping him, the man who used to be there enemy. I think that is what made that encounter with Jesus even more real, when he saw how Jesus power helped people that he was out to kill, to help him and accept him as one of their own.

I believe that this is a key for believers and new believers to trust that they can do all things through Christ, when they had an encounter with Jesus and then see how Christ works through others and when they start to encourage them that they can do it too!

I want to challenge us today to really believe what Paul is saying: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! But not just believe it, but live with that knowledge and walk it out. And when we do that encourage others along the way with the things God did through us and how He can do things through them as well!

Wow what a week here in San Francisco. We had  a wonderful brunch with neighbors. We also had a great time at our encouragement group. It’s a wonderful community that we started 2 years ago and which meets once a week and brings hope to the people that come. I’m amazed how much courage it brings to people that come. Remember this week to run on his strength and not your own and help others to do that too.

Ich vermag alles durch den der mich kräftig macht, Christus. Philipper 4.13

Seine staerkeIch fühle mich inspiriert wenn ich diesen Vers lese. Paulus ein Mann der das halbe Neue Testament geschrieben hat, ein Mann der eine Missions Bewegung vorwärts brachte die die Welt veränderte, ein Mann der durch Zeiten der Verfolgung und schwere Zeiten ging und er nicht aufgab sagt uns in dem Vers oben wie er es gemacht hat. Es war nicht seine Stärke aber die Stärke von Christus die ihm half alles erfolgreich zu erledigen. Er ging nicht alleine durch sein Leben sondern legte sein Vertrauen in Jesus. Aber wie tat er dies? Er kam zu dem Verständnis das wenn er nur auf seine eigenen Fähigkeiten vertraut er nicht die Dinge vollbringen kann die vor ihm lagen.

Nachdem er eine Begegnung mit Jesus auf der Straße nach Damaskus hatte die sein Leben total auf den Kopf gestellt hat. Viele würden sagen das dies der Moment war der ihn dazu brachte zu sagen das er alles tun kann durch den der ihm Stärke gibt. Ich glaube das dieser Moment dazu beitrug, aber ich glaube vieles passierte danach nachdem die anderen Nachfolger von Jesus ihn willkommen heißten und ihm halfen, ihm dem Mann der sie umbringen wollte und ihr Feind war. Ich glaube das dies die Begegnung mit Jesus noch mehr real machte als er sah das Seine (Jesus) Kraft Menschen die er hasste und umbringen wollte ihm vergaben und ihn in die Familie aufnahmen.

Ich glaube das darin der Schlüssel für uns als Christen und auch neue Christen liegt, wenn wir vertrauen das wir alles durch ihn tun können, wenn wir diese erste Begegnungen mit Jesus haben und dann sehen wie Er durch andere wirkt und wenn wir dann von ihnen ermutigt werden oder wir andere ermutigen,  das wir und sie es auch tun können.

Wir möchten dich und uns heute heraufordern wirklich zu glauben was Paulus sagte: ich vermag alles durch den der mir Kraft gibt, Christus! Aber nicht nur das wir es glauben, sondern das wir es  in unserem täglichen Leben leben! Und wenn wir dies tun können wir andere damit ermutigen was Gott getan hat und sie ermutigen das Er auch durch sie wirken kann!!

Wow was für eine Woche! Wir hatten ein tolles Brunch bei uns in der Wohnung. Wir hatten auch eine super Zeit bei der Ermutigungsgruppe. Es ist eine Gruppe die wir vor ca. 2 Jahren gestartet haben und die sich einmal pro Woche trifft und Hoffnung zu den Teilnehmern bringt. Wir sind jedes Mal erstaunt wieviel Mut es zu den Teilnehmern bringt. Falls du mehr darüber wissen möchtest wie diese Gruppe funktioniert und wie du auch eine starten kannst schreib uns eine E-Mail!

Vergiss diese Woche nicht aus seiner Kraft Dinge zu tun und nicht aus deiner Eigenen und ermutige andere dies auch zu tun!

How to train your caring muscleIn the city of San Francisco dogs outnumber children. I don’t know another place where people love their animals so much. Jen and I both really love animals but the level people love them here is above us. But how do you understand and care more for things that people around you care so much about. Immerse yourself into their culture. So recently Jen went to a class to volunteer at a local shelter in which the people shared passionately about the animals and why it is important that we care. When she came back she had a greater understanding and heart for people that love their pets so much. All it took for her was to get immersed into the things people care about here and to understand why they care about it.

The biggest dog we have ever seenWhen you do that it changes your heart towards people. From a value system based on what we think is important to a value system that values what is important to others. Of course with that also be wise, pray and don’t go against your biblical believes.

We want to challenge you to increase your caring muscle by looking at your community and see how you can care more about the things they care about!

  1. Find out what your community cares about
  2. Hear someone speak on that who is excited about it.
  3. Get a heart for it and connect through that with the people in your community

We hope you had a fantastic week!! This week we had a lot of meetings. A board meeting at YWAM, a meeting about a prayer event for San Francisco and our usual Staff Meeting. As much as most of us are not excited about meetings, they are needed to get things done and also catch up on the process. You also get to know sometimes great people which otherwise you would have never met. I have to remind myself of that when I am in them. We also had a Visitor from Germany which was awesome!!

Markus and JenWie kannst du deinen Herz Muskel trainierenIn San Francisco gibt es mehr Hunde wie Kinder. Ich weiß von keinem anderen Ort wo Menschen ihre Tiere so sehr lieben wie hier. Jen und ich lieben Tiere, aber das Level wie Menschen Tiere hier lieben ist weit über unserem. Aber wie kannst du anfangen ein Herz für die Dinge zu haben für die die Menschen in deinem Umfeld ein großes Herz haben. Tauche in ihre Kultur ein. Vor kurzem nahm Jen an einer Klasse in einem lokalen Tierheim teil bei der der Lehrer begeistert von den Tieren und wieso es wichtig ist das wir uns um sie kümmern unterrichtete. Sie kam von dieser Klasse zurück mit einem größeren Verständnis und Herz für die Menschen die ihre Tiere so sehr lieben. Alles was sie tun musste war, einzutauchen in die Dinge welchen Menschen hier wichtig sind und zu verstehen wieso sie wichtig für sie sind.

The biggest dog we have ever seenWenn du dies tust verändert es dein Herz für Menschen in deinem Umfeld. Von einem Wert System in dem wir denken was wichtig ist zu einem Werte System das Wert auf Dinge legt das anderen wichtig ist. Ganz klar ist es wichtig dies in einem Weg zu tun das wir darüber beten und das es nicht gegen biblische Werte geht.

Wir möchten dich herausfordern deinen Herz Muskel zu stärken in dem du dir deine Wohngegend anschaust und dir überlegst wie du dich mehr für die Dinge interessieren kannst für die sich Menschen in deiner Gegend interessieren!

  1. Finde heraus wofür Menschen in deiner Gegend ein Herz haben.
  2. Höre jemand zu der ein Herz dafür hat und begeistert dafür ist.
  3. Fange an ein Herz dafür zu bekommen und fange an dadurch Verbindungen mit Menschen in deiner Gegend aufzubauen.

Wir hoffen dass du eine wunderbare Woche hattest! Dies war die Woche der Meetings. Wir hatten ein YWAM Board Meeting, ein Meeting für einen Gebets Event für San Francisco und unser normales Mitarbeiter Meeting. Die meisten von uns freuen sich nicht auf Meetings, aber ich habe gelernt das diese gebraucht werden um etwas fertig zu bekommen als auch ein Update zu haben wo die anderen stehen. Manchmal lernst du auch neue Leute kennen die du andernfalls nicht kennengelernt hättest. Ich muss mich selber immer an dieses erinnern wenn ich in Meetings bin. Wir hatten diese Woche auch Besuch aus Deutschland was super war!!

Fange diese Woche damit an indem du deinen Herzmuskel trainierst!

Catch me if you can or Redemption is possibleCatch me if you can oder eine 180 Grad Wende ist möglich

Catch me if you can or Redemption is possibleLast weekend Jen and I watched the movie Catch me if you can. It is a true story about a man who was a con artist who was pretending to be a pilot, a doctor, a history professor and an attorney and while he did that he was making his own checks to steal millions. While he was running all those frauds an FBI Agent was making it his mission to bring him into custody but also started to have a heart for him. The interesting turn in the story happens after he is caught and in jail. The Agent talks to his Boss in the FBI to use the young man. So his boss decided to actually offer him parole if he helps them with Fraud cases which he does. Later on he starts his own security firm to help banks to make things safer. The Agent and the ex con were friends for the rest of their lives.

What I really liked about this story was the part of Redemption and how it came along. The agent could have been really bitter since he went through a lot of trouble cause of this guy, but he decides to use his help to bring change in the FBI. Out of that something changed and all the things the young man used for bad he actually turned around and started to use for the good.

I believe that this is the way God wants to work with us. He wants to turn our biggest failures into our biggest success. And he also wants to use each one of us to walk along others to get there in their own life. I believe each one of us can do that.

  1. Ask yourself the question what failures did I have in my life and then ask God how He wants to redeem them!
  2. Walk alongside another person that might be in the middle of a struggle in their life and help them by praying for them and walking alongside with them to also come to a place of redemption.

I want to start this off with a prayer request to all of us! let’s pray today for the families and friends of the people that died in orlando. Pray for God’s peace and comfort over each one of them. Let us as a followers of Jesus bring hope to the ones that lost hope in this killing. Let us show the love of our Father which is greater then hate! Let us not bring our agendas, let’s just respond with love and care! Let His love shine through us!!

Also here is a short update on our week. We had a great brunch on Saturday and also a wonderful game night at our house on Friday. It’s always so wonderful to share our home with friends from our hill. Over the years we lived here we have seen a little community form which is really awesome. Start doing it at your house. It will enrich your life!

Be a person that brings Redemption from Father God!

Markus and JenCatch me if you can oder eine 180 Grad Wende ist möglichLetztes Wochenende schauten wir den Film „Catch me if you can“ an. Der Film erzählt eine wahre Geschichte von einem Trickbetrüger der sich als Pilot, Doktor, Geschichte Professor und Anwalt ausgab. Während er dies tat stahl er Millionen durch Scheck Fälschungen. Als er diese Betrügereien betrieb machte es sich ein FBI Agent zur Aufgabe ihn hinter Gitter zu bringen, fing aber gelichzeitig auch an ein Herz für diesen jungen Mann zu haben. Eine Interessante Wende kommt nachdem er ich erwischt hat und er im Gefängnis ist. Der FBI Agent spricht mit seinem Chef darüber den jungen Mann als Helfer im FBI einzusetzen gegen Scheck Fälscher. Der Chef beschliefst ihm eine Begnadigung anzubieten wenn er dem FBI mit Betrugsfällen hilft was er dann auch annimmt. Nachdem er seine Zeit mit dem FBI abgedient hat startet er seien eigene Sicherheitsfirma um Banken zu helfen ihre Schecks sicherer zu machen und Betrug zu erschweren. Der Agent und der Ex Sträfling waren Freunde für den Rest ihres Lebens.

Was mir wirklich an dieser Geschichte gefiel war diese 180 Grad Wende und wie sie zustande kam. Der Agent hatte allen Grund verbittert zu sein da dieser junge Mann ihm viel Ärger gebracht hat. Aber er entscheidet sich ihm eine Chance zu geben um Veränderung ins FBI zu bringen. AN diesem Punkt kam dann eine große Veränderung: Was der junge Mann seither für das Böse benutzt hat, benutzte er nun um Gutes zu tun.

Ich glaube dass dies auch ein Weg ist wie Gott durch uns arbeiten möchte. Er möchte unsere größten Fehler und Versager in unsere größten Erfolge machen. Er möchte auch jeden einzelnen von uns benutzen anderen zu helfen das auch diese in ihrem Leben an diesen Punkt kommen. Ich glaube das jeder von uns dies tun kann!

  1. Stell dir die Frage, in welchem Bereich in meinem Leben habe ich Fehler oder habe versagt. Dann stelle Gott die Frage wie er in diesen Bereichen eine Wende bringen möchte und sie dann zu deiner Stärke macht!
  2. Frage Gott das er die jemanden zeigt der Gerade in einer schwierigen Situation steck und dieses Wende braucht. Hilf dieser Person indem du für sie betest und mir ihr durch diese Situation gehst bis sie an einen Punkt der Wende kommt und vorwärts geht!

Zum Anfang ein gebetsanliegen: Wie ihr sicher mitbekommen habt gab es gestern einen Anschlag auf einen club in orlando bei dem 50 Menschen ihr Leben verloren haben. Bete fur die Freunde und Familien das sie Gottes naehe und Frieden in dieser Zeit extra stark spüren duerfen. Lasst uns als Nachfolger Jesus die sein, die Hoffnung bringen zu denen die hoffnung verloren haben. Lasst uns die liebe des Vaters zeigen und leben, die stärker ist wie jeder hass! Dies ist der Weg wie wir Veränderung in dieser Welt sehen können! Lass Seine Liebe durch dich scheinen!!

Hier noch ein kleiner rueckblick auf unsere woche. Wir hatten ein wunderbares Brunch mit Nachbarn und einen tollen Spieleabend bei uns in der Wohnung. Es ist so schön unsere Wohnung mit Freunden von unserem Hügel zu teilen. In den Jahren seit wir hier leben konnten wir miterleben wie sich dadurch eine Gemeinschaft geformt hat. Fang an dies in deinem Haus oder deiner Wohnung zu tun. Es wird dein Leben reicher machen!

Lebe als ein Mensch der anderen hilft die Wende zu machen!
