If you watched the super bowl this year, especially the commercials, you saw in a lot of them a strong theme of fatherhood. I also noticed that  being a father theme was also advertised on some billboards here in the city. Why is there such a focus on fathers in this season?

Because it reflects the need in our society. Over many years the role of fathers and family didn’t have a strong value in many parts of society. But many people are longing for good fathers and family.

So this actually opens up a great opportunity for us as the Body of Christ / church. The world is asking for fathers and community and we have the opportunity to give it. How? Lets get involved in the lives of the people around us. Let’s be friends with them and start investing in their lives. Let us invite them into our lives and show them how our father means it well with us. In the bible it talks many times about God the loving father. Let’s bring that loving father that that the world is looking and longing for to them.

Start this week to invest in a person in your school, workplace, neighbors etc.

Markus and JenFalls du dir dieses Jahr den Superbowl angeschaut hast, speziell die Werbung, sahst du in vielem das starke Thema Vaterschaft. Mir ist auch hier in San Francisco aufgefallen das das Thema Väter auf vielen Werbeplakaten aufgegriffen wurde. Wieso sehen wir zurzeit einen so starken Fokus auf Väter in Medien und Werbung?

Ganz einfach es reflektiert was wir mehr in unserer Gesellschaft brauchen. Über viele Jahre hinweg hatte die Rolle des Vaters und der Familie keinen großen Stellenwert in vielen Bereichen der Gesellschaft. Aber viele Menschen sehnen sich nach guten Vätern und Familien.

Dies öffnet eine großartige Tür für uns als Gemeinde und Nachfolger Jesus. Die Welt sucht nach Vätern und Gemeinschaft und wir haben die Chance beides zu geben. Wie? Lasst uns ein Teil sein in den Leben von Mitmenschen. Lasst uns Freundschaften zu Ihnen aufbauen und lasst uns anfangen in Ihre Leben zu investieren. Lade sie in dein Leben ein und zeige Ihnen wie es unser Vater gut mit uns meint. In der Bibel spricht es oftmals darueber wie Gott ein liebender Vater ist. Lasst uns diesen liebenden Vater in diese Welt bringen welche nach ihm schaut und sich nach Ihm sehnt!!

Fange diese Woche an in eine Person in deinem Umfeld zu investieren Arbeit, Schule, Nachbarn, Sportverein etc.

For the last 2 weeks we talked a lot about the planning part on how to get involved into your community, but this week it’s time to start!!

Now you have a plan and you are ready to go, but remember those few points:

• Making a difference can take time. Plan more for a marathon, not a sprint. Many people go into it with the expectation of immediate results which then can bring discouragement and quitting if the result doesn’t show up as expected. So go into it with the right expectations.
• Commitment and Passion. I heard it many times that people went into something because of passion. Don’t misunderstand me here, passion is really important, but passion without commitment doesn’t lead to success.  We all know that there will be days were we are not passionate and if we have those for a while we easily give up. I often saw how people started something but then gave up in the middle of it, just because the passion was not as strong anymore. But if you are committed you will make it through those times and see the light at the end of the tunnel!
• Keep following Gods heart in the process. How? Keep spending time with Him in Prayer and keep listening to how he is guiding you in your efforts. He will keep giving you courage and ideas on how to move forward.

Have a lot of fun while investing in your neighborhood!!

We hope you had a wonderful week. During the last week we had times with our wonderful Pastor friend, moments of sharing with a visitor about the ministry and reconnecting with friends we meet through our game night who moved away. It is a blessing to be connected with people and see more and more community build. Join us in praying for people that don’t have a healthy community, that God will give them one and that all of us can give one as well.

During the last weekend we were blessed to celebrate the wedding of our friends Kevin and Lilia. I (Markus) felt really honored to be in the wedding as a groom’s man. We had a wonderful time.

Markus and JenIn den letzten 2 Wochen sprachen wir mehr über den theoretischen und planenden Teil wie wir in unser Wohngebiet investieren können, aber nun geht es los!

Nun hast du einen Plan und bist bereit loszulegen, aber denke an folgende Dinge:

• Veränderung zu bringen braucht Zeit. Plane mehr für einen Marathon und nicht für einen Sprint. Viele gehen in Projekte mit der Erwartung dass sie sofort Resultate sehen. Dies kann aber dazu führen das viele dann entmutigt aufgeben wenn nicht alles so läuft wie geplant. Gehe in dieses Projekt mit den richtigen Erwartungen.
• Treue, Verpflichtung und Passion. Ich hörte oftmals wie Menschen begeistert aus Leidenschaften (Passionen) in einen Bereich gingen. Verstehe mich hier nicht falsch, es ist wichtig eine Leidenschaft für etwas zu haben, aber Leidenschaft ohne Treue und Verpflichtung kommt oftmals nicht zum Erfolg. Wir wissen alle das wir Tage haben an denen wir nicht leidenschaftlich sind und oftmals sehen wir dann wie wir in diesen Tagen aufgeben. Wenn wir aber eine Treue und Verpflichtung zu dem Projekt haben schaffen wir es auch durch diese Zeiten und kommen ans Ziel!
• Folge Gottes Herz in dieser Zeit. Wie? Verbringe Zeit mit Ihm im Gebet und höre darauf wie er dich leitet. Er wird dir Ideen und Mut geben weiter zu gehen.

Aber nun ganz wichtig, habe viel Spaß beim Investieren in dein Wohngebiet!

Hallo unser/e Freund/in

Wir hoffen das du eine wunderbare Woche hattest. In der letzten Woche konnten wir eine strategische Zeit mit unserem Pastor verbringen, einem Besucher von unserer Arbeit berichten und Zeit mit einer Freundin verbringen die wir durch den Spieleabend erreicht haben die dann allerdings an einen anderen Ort gezogen ist. Es ist ein Segen mit Menschen in Verbindung zu sein und mehr und mehr zu sehen wie eine Gemeinschaft zusammen wächst. Bete mit uns für Menschen die keine gesunde Gemeinschaft haben.Bete das Gott ihnen Gemeinschaft schenkt und das er jeden von uns dazu nutzen kann.

Letzets Wochenende heirateten gute Freunde von uns Kevin und Lilia. Ich (Markus) hatte die Ehre als einer der Grooms Men (Trauzeugen) mit vorne zu stehen. Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit.

Vielen dank das du Teil unseres Lebens bist. Es ist ein Segen dich zu kennen!!

During our time living here in North Beach we started to see what is needed in our community. One thing was safety. So we joined a neighborhood watch group to help our community to become more safe. Since that group started people started watching out for each other and it also gave us the opportunity to meet more of our neighbors through the meetings.

We also met up with different non profit organizations and checked with them how we can help out. Through that we got connected with youth work and work with the elderly. Both of them really needed help in the  work they are doing.

All of those opportunities took a little bit of research, but it was fairly simple to find out. During the first few months of the work here in north beach we walked every single street and prayed over it to see Gods heart for the area. It really helped us to get a clearer perspective on what is needed as well.

But how can you start in your community? Start by thinking about what your neighborhood needs and talk to people in your neighborhood to hear their input. After that, check in with local non profits, churches and other local places to see if they need help or hear from them what is needed. Start writing all the things down, so you can look at them later.

Get ready, now its time to get started with research!!

We hope you had a wonderful week. Our week was very eventful with a game night, an encouragement group, a staff day and a bachelor party for our friend Kevin Tsui. At some of those events we saw again how important it is to find out what is needed in the community and then to bring it.

We are praying that God will give you a fantastic week with lots of moments of encouragement! Remember that you are amazing and loved!!

Seit wir in North Beach wohnen sehen wir mehr und mehr was in unserer Gegend gebraucht wird. Eines davon war Sicherheit. Um Veränderung in diesem Bereich zu bringen traten wir einer Nachbarschaftswache bei um unsere Gegend sicherer zu machen. Seit dem Anfang der Nachbarschaftswache stellten wir fest das Nachbarn anfingen nacheinander zu schauen und durch die Meetings für die Wache hatten wir die Möglichkeit mehr Nachbarn kennenzulernen.

Wir trafen uns auch mit lokalen Organisationen wie z.B. dem Boys und girls club und dem italienischen Gemeinschaftscenter, und fragten an wie wir aushelfen können. Dadurch kamen wir dann in Verbindung mit Jugend und Seniorenarbeit.  Die beiden Organisationen brauchten dringend Hilfe in der Arbeit die sie machten.

Um diese Möglichkeiten zu finden mussten wir ein wenig recherchieren, was aber recht einfach war. Als wir die Arbeit starteten marschierten wir auf jeder Straße und beteten für Gottes Herz und seine Perspektive für dieses Gebiet. Es half uns eine klarere Perspektive darüber zu bekommen was gebraucht wird.

Aber wie kannst du in deinem Wohngebiet anfangen? Fange damit an darüber nachzudenken was dein Wohngebiet  braucht und dann frage Menschen aus der Gegend was sie denken. Nachdem du dies getan hast, sprich mit den lokalen Organisationen, Kirchen und anderen Gruppen und Vereinen um zu sehen ob dort Hilfe gebraucht wird und was sie denken was am meisten gebraucht wird. Schreibe all diese Dinge auf, so dass du sie später anschauen und analysieren kannst.

Und nun sei bereit und fange an zu recherchieren!!

Wir hoffen das du eine wunderbare Woche hattest. Unsere Woche hatte viele Highlights wie z.B. der Spieleabend, die Ermutigungsgruppe, einen Mitarbeiter Tag und ein Fest für unseren Freund Kevin der im Mai heiratet. Bei einigen dieser Veranstaltungen sahen wir wieder wie wichtig es ist herauszufinden was unser Wohngebiet braucht und es dann praktisch umzusetzen.

Wir beten dafür das Gott dir eine wunderbare Woche schenkt mit vielen Momenten der Ermutigung! Vergiss nicht das du wunderbar und geliebt bist!!

We live in one of the biggest tech cities in the world and we see daily new products and services coming out of it. Technology can be a blessing to us or a curse, it just depends how we use it. If we get stuck on Facebook or other tech related services and spend all of our off time on them, tech can become a curse to us. But on the other side Jen and I use Facebook to communicate with friends all over the world and also use it to share about what God is doing here in San Francisco and encourage others through it, then it is a blessing.

Last summer I (Markus) started an experiment in which I canceled my cell phone service. The reason I did it was to live in the opposite spirit of the city in which everyone is always on their cellphone and through that never totally present with the person that is right in front of them. When I started in August with it, I realized after a few months that I can still get all the work done but I am able to have deeper conversations with people without distractions. The other thing I started to do was setting times aside where I was working on or with technology, through that I was able to have better control over the times technology is used.

So you see technology can have a huge impact in our life and can take control of many areas. It’s the same as when Jesus talked about money and about how money in itself is not bad, but the love of it is the problem. The same is true for technology.

Ask yourself some of those questions:

What outcome does it have in the long run, when I start to use a certain new technology?
How is technology a blessing to you and how a curse?
How can you use technology to be a blessing to others?

We hope you had a wonderful week. We had many moments of ministry during this week which was a real blessing. It is amazing to see how God uses little things to impact people deeply. Little words of encouragement, little gifts or little moments of your time. We want to encourage you to do something little daily for someone in your life.

Thank you for praying with us over this Easter time for people in San Francisco and the rest of the world to really get to know there loving father.

Wir leben in einer der größten Technologie Städte der Welt und wir sehen täglich wie neue Produkte und Dienstleistungen das Tageslicht erblicken. Technologie kann ein Segen oder ein Fluch für uns sein, es kommt nur darauf an wie wir sie benutzen. Wenn wir unsere ganze Zeit auf Facebook oder anderen Tech Seiten verbringen, Technologie kann ein Fluch für uns sein. Aber Facebook kann auch ein Segen sein, Jen und ich benutzen es um mit Freunden und Familie auf der ganzen Welt im Kontakt zu bleiben. Wir benutzen es auch dazu anderen von dem was Gott hier in San Francisco tut zu berichten und sie zu ermutigen.

Letzten Sommer habe ich (Markus) ein Experiment gestartet bei welchem ich meinen Handy Vertrag gekündigt habe. Der Grund war das ich in einem Gegensatz leben wollte zu all den Menschen in unserer Stadt die ständig nur auf ihre Handy Bildschirme starren und niemals total anwesend sind mit dem Menschen der direkt vor ihnen steht. Als ich das Experiment startete stellte ich nach kurzer Zeit fest, dass ich meine komplette Arbeit fertig bekomme aber dann auch noch wesentlich tiefergehende Gespräche mit Menschen führen kann ohne ständig abgelenkt zu sein. Ich veränderte auch die zufälligen Zeiten in denen ich Technologie nutze zu festgelegten Zeiten. Dies half mir mehr Kontrolle über Technologie zu erlangen und darüber wie und wann ich sie benutze.

Du siehst das Technologie einen großen Einfluss in unserem Leben haben kann und Kontrolle über viele Bereiche übernehmen kann. Wir sehen in diesem Fall das gleiche Problem das Jesus mit Geld aufgezeigt hat: Das Problem ist nicht das Geld, aber das Problem ist wenn wir das Geld lieben und ihm Kontrolle in unserem Leben geben. Dieses ist auch wahr für Technologie.

Stelle dir folgende Fragen:

1. Was für ein Langzeit Resultat hat es wenn ich anfange eine neue Technologie zu nutzen?
2. Wann und wie ist Technologie ein Segen oder ein Fluch für mich?
3. Wie kann ich Technologie benutzen als Segen für andere?
