We hope you are doing well. Last week we celebrated our annual YWAM Christmas party which was amazing. We had lots of fun. It is crazy to think about the fact that Christmas is almost here. Remember to spend some time thinking about the one who is the reason for the season. Also today our DTS is leaving for there Outreach to Thailand. Please keep them in your prayers. What are we running after (or the organ part 2)

Last week I wrote about an organ that I saw in a very old church. In that church I noticed something else, a second organ. It actually looked identical to the first one. But when you looked closer you saw that it was just a copy of the other one and that it was not functioning. I think that is another great picture of how important it is to be connected to God. There are many things in this world that promise you a lot. On paper many of them look great, but as more you look into it, as more you see, how they are not that great. Money, power or fame are some of them, but when you talk to people that succeeded in them without Jesus you see that it didn’t fulfill them. You see how it was just a cheap imitation of what God actually intended for them to have. I’m not trying to say that God doesn’t want to give you those things, but what I’m asking is:

What is your heart after? Are we running after Jesus or are we finding satisfaction in things that will never be able to fulfill us?

Jesus said once that He is the way the truth and the life and that no one comes to the father then through Him. So we need to get our focus right and ask ourselves this question. What are we running after and in which areas do we have to change our course? I think this is a question which we have to ask ourselves many times during our lifetime. Ponder on it and think about it.

Was oder wem laufen wir nach oder die Orgel Teil 2

Letzte Woche schrieben wir über eine Orgel in einer sehr alten Kirche. In dieser Kirche sah ich etwas interessantes, eine 2te Orgel. Sie sah genauso aus wie die andere. Aber bei näherem Hinschauen sah man das es sich bei dieser um eine Kopie handelt und sie nicht funktionierte. Ich denke dass dies ein gutes Bild dafür ist wie wichtig es ist mit Gott verbunden zu sein. Es gibt in dieser Welt viele Dinge die Dir vieles versprechen. Auf dem Papier sehen viele dieser Dinge gut aus, aber je näher du hinschaust, e mehr siehst du wie sie doch nicht so gut sind. Geld, Macht oder Ruhm sind nur einige davon. Aber wenn du mit Leuten sprichst die in diesen Bereichen ohne Jesus erfolgreich geworden sind, stellst du fest dass es ihnen keine Erfüllung brachte. Du wirst feststellen das sie nur eine billige Kopie von dem hatten was Gott eigentlich geplant hatte Ihnen zu geben. Ich möchte damit nicht sagen das Gott dir keine dieser Dinge geben möchte, aber ich möchte folgende Frage stellen:

Welchem Verlangen gehst du mit deinem Herzen nach? Ist unser Verlangen auf Jesus gerichtet oder suchen wir unsere Erfüllung in Dingen die uns nie wahre Erfüllung schenken können?

Jesus sagte einmal: Ich bin der Weg die Wahrheit und das Leben und niemand kommt zum Vater denn durch mich. Es ist wichtig das unser Fokus in die richtige Richtung geht und das wir uns diese Frage stellen: Wem oder was laufen wir nach und wo müssen wir unseren Kurs korrigieren? Ich denke dass wir uns diese Frage oftmals in unserem Leben Stellen müssen. Denke darüber nach.

We had a great week in San Francisco. All our events went really well and we really saw daily Gods goodness again. We were invited to many different events and through that were able to make new friends in the neighborhood. God keeps opening doors. Keep praying for his guidance in this Christmas season. How can you be the most effective or the Organ part 1

While we were in Germany we visited a very old church. In the front part of the church they had a really big organ with big pipes. It was very impressive looking at the big organ, but then it was even more impressive to see the little keyboard on which you play the organ. It also didn’t look very impressive but the person that pushed the buttons controlled the organ. I think it is a great picture how God can use each one of us and there gifting. Just picture this. You bring Jesus to one person and that person becomes the new Billy Graham. You might not be remembered here on earth, but I promise you God remembers you. And the great thing is since God is the organ player He knows exactly how to use you at the right time. If you play the wrong tone at the wrong time the song sounds wrong, but played at the right time its beautiful. When we listen to Him He can share His heart with us and guide us. I promise you listening to God and his guidance is no wasted life, its actually the most effectively used life possible. We want to challenge you to start spending time listening to His guidance.

Wie kannst Du dein Leben relevant leben oder die Orgel Teil 1

Als wir auf unserem Deutschland Besuch waren besuchten wir eine sehr alte Kirche in Ulm. Im hinteren Bereich der Kirche war eine sehr große Orgel. Ich war beeindruckt als ich mir diese Orgel anschaute, da ich früher selber Orgel gespielt habe. Aber das interessante an dieser Orgel ist die kleine Tastatur um die Orgel zu spielen. Sie war nicht so eindrucksvoll wie die Orgel selber, aber der Organist der diese Tasten bedient, bedient die ganze Orgel. Dies ist ein schönes Bild dafür wie Gott jeden einzelnen von uns und unsere Gaben benutzen kann. Stelle Dir mal folgendes vor. Du bringst Jesus zu einer Person und diese Person wird der neue Billy Graham. Vielleicht erinnert sich keiner an dich auf dieser Welt, aber ich verspreche dir Gott erinnert sich an dich. Und das geniale daran ist das Gott als Orgel Spieler genau was wie Er dich zum richtigen Zeitpunkt benutzen kann. Wenn du einen Ton zum falschen Zeitpunkt spielst klingt ein Lied nicht sonderlich gut. Aber wenn der Ton zur richtigen Zeit gespielt wird klingt es wunderschön. Wenn wir auf Ihn hören kann Er uns sein Herz zeigen und uns leiten. Ich verspreche Dir auf Gott zu hören ist kein verschwendetes Leben, sondern das effektivste genutzte Leben das es gibt. Wir möchten dich herausfordern Zeit zu verbringen um auf seine Leitung zu hören.

Thanksgiving week went by so fast. We hope you had a wonderful time. We hosted a Thanksgiving meal at our apartment which was a wonderful time. This week we will have the whole DTS over to share more about the ministry and take them on a prayer walk. We are also going more towards the Christmas season. Unique is good

Recently I heard about an interesting phenomenon in the LA area. People pay a company to greet them at the airport as if they were famous. They roll out a red carpet and hire people that will wait for you and cheer at you. Then they drive you off in a limousine. The interesting thing about this is that this concept gains in Popularity. I think it is interesting how Salomon addressed this kind of situation in Proverbs 12.9

Better to be ordinary and work for a living

than act important and starve in the process.

He was talking about that it is better to be ordinary then to pretend to be something that we are not. I believe in todays society many people strive for being someone they are not. Maybe some want to be like a certain Hollywood star, a certain model or a certain successful person. But the thing is that they end up living there lives to become someone they are not and in that missing out on who God truly made them to be. I think many of those problems come from identity issues and not accepting who we are. Another one is from how we grew up and wrong things we believed that people and the enemy told us. I want to remind you today that God made you unique and wonderful. You and the world misses out if you don’t live out that uniqueness. You, the true you, brings a piece of God into this world that only you can bring. And always remember God doesn’t create junk but only unique and amazing things

Die Thanksgiving Woche verging wie im Flug. Wir hoffen dass Du diese Woche auch in Deutschland genossen hast selbst wenn es Thanksgiving dort nicht wirklich gibt. Wir hatten eine schöne Thanksgiving Feier hier bei uns im Haus zudem mehrere Leute aus der Gegend kamen. Wir hatten sehr gute Gespräche und eine gute Zeit zusammen. In dieser Woche haben wir die Gelegenheit mehr mit der DTS über die Arbeit in North beach zu sprechen und sie dann anschließend auf einen Gebetsmarsch durch die Gegend zu nehmen.

Nun sind wir bereits in der Vorweihnachtszeit angekommen. Wir möchten dich ermutigen in dieser Zeit mehr an den Mann zu denken dem wir dieses Fest verdanken, Jesus.

Einzigartig ist etwas Gutes

Vor kurzem hörte ich von einem interessanten Phänomen in Los Angeles. Menschen bezahlen eine Firma um sie am Flughafen zu begrüßen als ob sie bekannt wären. Die Firma rollt einen roten Teppich aus und wartet mit etlichen Mitarbeitern auf die Person um sie mit Jubel zu begrüßen Danach steigt die Person in eine Limo ein und wird davon gefahren. Das interessante daran ist das dieses Konzept mehr und mehr an Beliebtheit gewinnt. Ich denke es ist auch interessant wir Salomon solche eine Situation bereits in seiner Zeit adressiert hat in Sprüche 12.9

Wer gering ist und geht seiner Arbeit nach, ist besser als einer, der groß sein will und an Brot Mangel hat.

Er spricht in diesem Vers darüber das es besser ist einfach zu sein als zu sagen das wir etwas sind das wir nicht sind. Ich glaube das in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft viele jemand sein wollen der sie nicht sind.  Einige wollen wie ein bestimmter Filmstar in Hollywood sein, andere wie ein bekanntes Model und wieder andere wollen wie ein erfolgreicher Firmenleiter sein. Aber das Problem dabei ist das diese Menschen anfangen ein Leben zu leben das sie diese Person werden wollen und verpassen dabei zu leben was Gott für sie geplant hat und ihre wahre Identität.  Ich denke das viele dieser Probleme auf Identitäts Probleme zurückführen und darauf nicht zu akzeptieren wer wir sind. Ein weiterer Grund ist wie wir aufgewachsen sind und welche schlechten Dinge wir glauben die Menschen oder Satan über uns gesagt haben. Ich möchte DICH heute daran erinnern das Gott dich einzigartig und wunderbar geschaffen hat. Du und die Welt kommen zu kurz wenn Du diese Einzigartigkeit nicht lebst. Du, das wahre Du, bringt ein Stück Gottes in diese Welt das nur du bringen kannst. Und erinnere dich immer daran, Gott erschafft keinen Schrott sondern nur einzigartige und wunderbare Dinge.

A day of Thanks

This week we will celebrate on of the big holidays with lots of Turkey, family and friends. With that special day coming up, I want to look a bit more at the impact of ungratefulness at the example of Israel. As thankfulness carries blessings I believe it is also true that ungratefulness carries curses and moves us away from God. When you look at Israel and the many years they were connected with God you can see over and over again how they were ungrateful.   Many times in the desert they complained about the situation they were in instead of thanking God for freeing them out of Slavery. They focused many times on the momentary short lived circumstance (walking through the desert and not having the good food of Egypt) instead of being thankful for what God has done for them. And every time they did that they end up slipping into sin and start walking away from God. But when they were thankful they were drawn closer to God.

 When you are ungrateful you have your focus on lack instead of God. But on the other hand, when you are thankful your focus is on the One that has everything you need.

But why is that? Because their focus changed. When you are ungrateful you have your focus on lack instead of God. That opens the door to all kind of things like trying to be happy through things you should not do. But on the other hand, when you are thankful your focus is on the One that has everything you need.

We want to challenge you this week with this little exercise. Find each of those days things you are thankful for in that topic: Day 1 friends, Day 2 things you have, day 3 the good things God did in your life (gave you a job, kept you safe etc.), Day 4 family, day 5 your church and the people in there. After you are done with that start looking into other areas in your life you are thankful for. Start every day of your week by thinking about 5 things you are thankful for.

Ein Tag des Dankens

In dieser Woche feiern wir einen der großen Feiertage in Amerika, Thanksgiving. Der Tag des Truthahns, der Familie und Freunden. Da wir diesen Tag der Dankbarkeit feiern möchte ich heute einmal den Fokus auf die Auswirkungen für Undankbarkeit legen am Beispiel des Volkes Israel.  Dankbarkeit bringt Segen und ich glaube das das Gegenteil ebenfalls war ist Undankbarkeit bringt Fluch und bringt unseren Fokus weg von Gott. Wenn wir uns Israel anschauen und wie sie für viele Jahre von Gott versorgt wurden sehen wir sehr oft wie die Undankbarkeit in Ihrem Leben sie in Probleme gebracht hat. Oftmals beschwerten sie sich in der Wüste über ihre Situation in der sie sich gerade befanden anstatt Gott dafür zu danken das er sie aus der Sklaverei in Ägypten befreit hat. Sie schauten oftmals nur auf die kurzzeitige Problem Situation in der sie gerade waren (Wüsten Wanderung ohne das „gute“ essen von Ägypten)  anstatt Gott dafür zu danken für was er für sie getan hat. Und jedes Mal wenn sie dies taten verfielen sie in Sünde und fingen an von Gott wegzugehen. Aber wenn sie dankbar waren kamen sie näher zu Gott.

Wenn du undankbar bist, bist du auf das fokussiert was du nicht hast und nicht auf Gott. Aber auf der Kehrseite gilt auch wenn du dankbar bist liegt dein Fokus auf dem der alles hat was du brauchst.

Aber Wieso? Weil sich ihr Fokus veränderte. Wenn du undankbar bist, bist du auf das fokussiert was du nicht hast und nicht auf Gott. Dies öffnet die Tür für alle möglichen Probleme wie z.B. Glück zu finden in Dingen die du nicht tun solltest. Aber auf der Kehrseite gilt auch wenn du dankbar bist liegt dein Fokus auf dem der alles hat was du brauchst.

Wir möchten dich mit dieser kleinen Übung herausfordern. Finde jeden Tag zu dem speziellen Thema Dinge für die Du dankbar bist: Tag 1 Freunde, Tag 2 Dinge die du hast, Tag 3 die guten Dinge die Gott in deinem Leben getan hat (Heilung, deine Arbeit etc. ), Tag 4 Familie, Tag 5 deine Gemeinde . Nachdem du diese 5 Tage absolviert hast fange an nach mehr Dingen in deinem Leben zu schauen für die Du dankbar bist. Fange jeden Tag damit an 5 Dinge zu sagen für die du dankbar bist.

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. John 5.24

We had a good but also challenging week here in San Francisco. A few weeks ago a good friend and the first person that came to our coffee shop work passed away. We had a memorial service for Him last Saturday and I (Markus) was sharing about his life and talked about John 5.24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. It left a lot of the people thinking about their own lives. I ended the message with a challenge to reach out to lonely people that are living around them. It was a moving and emotional time. Please pray for his family in this season. This week we are planning for our thanksgiving meal which we will have next Thursday and also teach the students. Pray for fruitful times.

Obey

Many times I walked through San Francisco and I saw people with Tshirts and Hats that said the word obey. I wonder what the designer of the clothing line had in mind for the people to obey. For Christians it means to obey God and walk in what he calls us to do on a daily base. I think sometimes it can be easy to think that we obeyed God by doing something in our life (reaching out to a person, doing ministry at church, going in full time missions etc.), but the truth is it needs to be an everyday thing. As an example if God called you to reach the people that live next to you and you invite them over for one dinner but then never meet or share with them again, that is not real obedience. But if you ask God on a daily base how you are able to reach them and bring them closer to Him that is true obedience. Walking out daily what God calls us to do is true obedience.  And again it doesn’t count to say I obeyed God at one point, it needs to be daily. It’s a challenge, but it is important to do since it makes us able to live our life to the fullest.  Ask God to show you areas where you haven’t obeyed him and ask for forgiveness in those. Then ask Him to help you obey Him daily. One thing that is important to remember in the area of obedience: God wants the best for us every day!!

Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Wer meine Botschaft hört und an den glaubt, der mich gesandt hat, der wird ewig leben. Ihn wird das Urteil Gottes nicht treffen, denn er hat die Grenze vom Tod zum Leben schon überschritten.  Johannes 5.24

Wir hatten eine gute als auch herausfordernde Woche hier in San Francisco. Vor einigen Wochen starb ein guter Freund und auch erster Teilnehmer der Café Arbeit. Wir hatten am Samstag eine Gedenkfeier mit einer Seebestattung für Ihn. Ich predigte und sprach darin über sein Leben und über Johannes 5.24. Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Wer meine Botschaft hört und an den glaubt, der mich gesandt hat, der wird ewig leben. Ihn wird das Urteil Gottes nicht treffen, denn er hat die Grenze vom Tod zum Leben schon überschritten. Die Predigt brachte viele Gäste zum Nachdenken. Ich beendete die Predigt mit einer Herausforderung für jeden einzelnen um einsame Menschen in Ihrem Umfeld zu erreichen. Es war eine sehr emotionale und bewegende Zeit. Bitte betet für die Familie in dieser Zeit und die Gäste das Gott durch diese Situation sei weiterhin zum Nachdenken bringt und sie sich dann für Ihn entscheiden. Bitte betet auch für die Schulungs Zeit für die Studenten in dieser Woche und unsere Thanksgiving Feier in der nächsten Woche für welche wir viele Nachbarn und Leute aus der Gegend einladen. Betet für eine fruchtbare Zeit.

Obey (Gehorchen)

In letzter Zeit sah ich sehr oft T Shirts und Mützen mit dem Aufdruck Obey. Ich fragte mich oftmals an wen der Designer gedacht hat dem wir gehorchen sollen. Für Christen heißt es auf Gott zu hören und seinen Worten zu gehorchen und zu tun was Er jeden Tag für uns geplant hat.  Ich denke manchmal ist es einfach zu denken das wir Gott gehorchen indem wir etwas getan haben (eine Person erreicht haben, in der Gemeinde mitgeholfen haben oder auch in Vollzeit Mission gegangen sind etc.), aber die Wahrheit ist, Gott zu gehorchen muss eine tägliche Sache sein. Als Beispiel wenn dich Gott dazu berufen hat deine Nachbarn zu erreichen und du sie einmal zum Abendessen einlädst und dann nie wieder mit Ihnen sprichst, ist das kein Gehorsam. Aber wenn du Gott täglich aufs neue fragst wie du sie erreichen kannst und sie näher zu Ihm bringen kannst und Seinen Worten folgst, dann ist das gehorsam. Wenn wir jeden Tag leben zu was uns Gott beruft, das ist wahrer Gehorsam. Und noch einmal, es gilt nicht zu sagen ich habe Gott einmal gehorcht, nein es muss eine tägliche Sache sein. Dies ist eine Herausforderung, aber es lohnt sich, da wir nur so unsere Leben so leben können wie Gott es geplant hat. Frage Gott nach Punkten in deinem Leben wo du Ihm nicht gehorsam warst und bitte Ihn um Vergebung. Und dann bitte Ihn das Er dir täglich hilft Ihm gehorsam zu sein. Es ist wichtig das wir uns immer an diese Sache erinnern wenn wir Gott gehorsam sind: Gott möchte täglich das Beste für uns!!
