Back home in Germany we celebrate the 4 Sundays before Christmas, called Advent, by burning a candle for each Sunday on the Advent wreath and by preparing our hearts for Christmas and the good news that came with it. Each of the candle symbolizes something different and we will write about the meanings for the next 4 weeks.

The first candle on the Advent wreath stands for hope. A hope that is promised in Isaiah 11.10 but then also repeated in Romans 15.12-13 (The Message Translation).

There’s the root of our ancestor Jesse,  breaking through the earth and growing tree tall, Tall enough for everyone everywhere to see and take hope! Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!

Hope is something so desperately needed in a world where we see so much hopelessness. People that had to flee their homes because of war, poverty in so many third world countries and hard to find jobs for young people in certain countries, to name just a few of them. In many ways Jesus was born into a world with not much hope for his people. The Romans were ruling the country and the Israelites, and people were hurting under the big taxes and ruthless leaders. So the world didn’t look much different then, then today.

But wait, it actually looks different today: When Jesus was born the world was still waiting for someone who brings hope. The Israelites were still waiting for the Saviour promised in Isaiah. But today he is there for us. God send his son so we can actually be set free. That is true hope. When we put our life focus on Him, we can find true hope. But lets not stop there, lets share this hope with a hopeless world. Share it with the people around you. Share about the one that gives you hope. We want to encourage you with the lyrics of this song to do that this week. Share this week with someone about the true hope bringer!!

We hope you had a fantastic week. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with friends from our neighborhood. It was a true blessing. We also had a visitor, our cousin Tina which was awesome!! It is amazing to see how  a dinner that brings hope can change the lives of people. It gives a total different outlook on situations. Lets pray for each other that we receive hope and bring hope to others.

We have a request for you! To do the work we are doing we depend 100% on support. Over the last few months we lost about $287 in monthly support through changes of circumstances in people’s lives. So at this point we need about $1410 more in monthly support to be fully funded and about $9,550 more to reach our full budget for this year. We want to ask for your help in sharing with people you know that have a heart for missions and would be interested in joining our support team monthly or with a year end donation. Markus and JenIn dieser Adventszeit wollen wir ein wenig über die Bedeutung der verschiedenen Kerzen auf dem Adventskranz schreiben.

Die erste Kerze steht für Hoffnung. Eine Hoffnung die in Jesaja 11.10 versprochen wurde und dann auch noch mal in Roemer 15.12-13 (Hoffnung für alle Übersetzung) bestätigt wurde:

¹² Und Jesaja prophezeite: »Der Trieb, der aus der Wurzel Davids^a]”>[a]hervorsprießt, wird groß werden und über die Völker herrschen. Er wird ihre einzige Hoffnung sein.«

¹³ Deshalb wünsche ich für euch alle, dass Gott, der diese Hoffnung schenkt, euch in eurem Glauben mit großer Freude und vollkommenem Frieden erfüllt, damit eure Hoffnung durch die Kraft des Heiligen Geistes wachse.

Hoffnung ist etwas das in einer hoffnungslosen Welt dringend gebraucht wird. Menschen die um ihr Leben zu retten von ihrer Heimat flüchteten, extreme Armut in vielen dritte Welt Ländern und in vielen Ländern gibt es keine Arbeit für junge Menschen, um nur einige Probleme zu nennen. In vielen Bereichen sah die Welt auch nicht besser aus als Jesus geboren wurde. Es gab nicht sehr viel Hoffnung für sein Volk. Die Roemer regierten Israel und Menschen litten unter den großen Steuern und brutalen Soldaten und Leitern. Also die Welt sah nicht groß anders aus als heutzutage.

Aber halt, sie sieht heutzutage doch anders aus: Als Jesus geboren wurde wartete die Welt immer noch auf jemanden der Hoffnung bringt. Die Israeliten warteten immer noch auf den versprochenen Retter aus Jesaja. Aber heute ist er für uns da. Gott sandte seinen Sohn das wir frei sein können. Das ist wahre Hoffnung. Wenn wir unseren Lebens Fokus auf ihn legen können wir wahre Hoffnung finden. Aber lasst uns an diesem Punkt nicht aufhören. Lasst uns diese wahre Hoffnung mit einer hoffnungslosen Welt teilen. Zeige und erzähle den Menschen in deinem Umfeld den wahren Grund der Hoffnung. Wir moechten dich mit diesem Lied ermutigen dies in dieser Woche tun. Zeige jemanden in dieser Woche den wahren Hoffnungsbringer!!

Jesus allein ist der Eckstein. Schwache werden in seiner Liebe stark gemacht.

Wir hoffen dass du eine fantastische Woche hattest. Wir hatten ein wunderbares Thanksgiving essen mit Freunden aus der North beach Gegend. Es war eine super Zeit für alle die dabei waren. Wir hatten auch noch Besuch von unserer Kusine Tina was toll war!! Es ist genial zu sehen wie ein Essen das Hoffnung bringt die Leben von Menschen verändern kann. Es verändert total den Ausblick auf andere Dinge. Lasst uns füreinander beten dass wir Hoffnung für uns selber finden können und sie dann auch zu anderen bringen können.

Und an dieser Stelle wollen wir Danke sagen an alle die uns in unserer Arbeit hier unterstützen, im Gebet und finanziell! Ihr seid ein großer Segen für uns! Möge Euch Gott reichlich segnen!

Und hier noch ein Anliegen. Um die Arbeit hier zu tun sind wir 100% auf Spenden angewiesen. In den letzten Monaten verloren wir ca. $287 an monatlicher Unterstützung da sich bei einigen Dinge geändert haben (Schule, Hauskauf, verstorben usw.). Zu diesem Zeitpunkt brauchen wir noch $1.410 mehr in monatlicher Unterstützung um komplett finanziert zu sein und noch ca. 9.550 Dollar um unser komplettes Budget für dieses Jahr zu erreichen. Du kannst uns helfen indem du Menschen die ein Herz für Mission haben von dieser Arbeit berichtest und ihnen erzählst wie sie ein Teil dieser Arbeit werden können (siehe unter diesem Link.).Vielen Dank für all deine Hilfe damit!!

When we found out about the attack in France the other day we both were shocked and we started praying for the families that lost someone as well as our friends from France. But tragedies like that also shake you up in a way that makes you think about what you are thankful for in life. And this weeks blog video is about that. We hope it encourages you!!

We hope you had a fantastic week!! Here we had a neighborhood game night with one of the big neighborhood organizations. Jen helped to plan it and it was hold in a local restaurant. It’s a great way to create community and bring people together. Think about ways to do that in your area! Maybe a game night could work. Jen also had a meeting with the city’s neighborhood watch captains. After our time in Redding we felt really refreshed from all the business of the last few months.

We also want to wish you a blessed Thanksgiving with family and close ones!

Markus and JenAls wir von der Terroristen Attacke in Paris gehört haben waren wir in Schock. Wir fingen dann an für die Familien zu beten die die Menschen verloren haben und Freunde aus Frankreich. Aber Tragödien wie diese rütteln uns auch auf und erinnern uns daran für was wir dankbar sind. Und in diesem Video Blog geht es darum. Wir hoffen dass es dich ermutigt!!

Wir hoffen das du eine fantastische Woche hattest! Hier in San Francisco hatten wir einen Spieleabend für unser ganzes Wohngebiet, welchen Jen für eine große Nachbarschaftsorganisation geplant hat. Wir hatten den Spieleabend in einem lokalen Restaurant  und es ist ein einfacher Weg Menschen aus der Gegend in Gemeinschaft zu bringen. Überlege dir was du in deiner Gegend tun kannst um Menschen zusammen zu bringen! Vielleicht würde ja ein Spieleabend auch bei dir klappen. Jen hatte auch ein Meeting mit den verschiedensten Leitern der Nachbarschaftswachen in San Francisco. Nach unserer Zeit in Redding fühlen wir das Gott uns beide mit neuer Kraft aufgetankt hat was super ist.
