Our story today is about John and how Jesus calls people. Be encouraged by his story!

How are you?

Mark twain was right when he said the coldest winter he ever experienced was summer in San Francisco. We had wonderful sunshine everyday but the temperatures were low. But that didn’t stop us from connecting with our community and others outside. We got to go on walks with some or connect while walking in the morning. Just by being out there we were able to encourage some or be a listening ear to others. The importance is that we are outside and use the chance to connect with others.

And also like Jesus called the son of thunder and he became a great disciple who changed the world,  let us do that today while beeing outside in our neighborhood. Let’s find the sons and daughters of thunder in our neighborhood and call them and guide them too so they can be a big part of the kingdom!!

Wow, we are now together for 1.5 years on this journey through the bible, isn’t that exciting! Today we are in the book Songs of Songs. A whole book dedicated to love in marriage. Enjoy!

How are you?

What an amazing week. We were part of a worship/prayer event called the sound which was hosted by different churches from the bay area. People from different parts of San Francisco, the bay area and all over the country came to pray for our city. The times were mostly in our neighborhood as well as in Golden Gate Park and Mount Davidson which is the highest spot and which also has a big cross on the top. While all that was going on there was also a Vacation bible school for the children in North Beach. Jen had a part in that. It was so wonderful standing together with others and praying for our city and seeing how adults and children got to hear the good news of the gospel.

Spend some time this week to read Song of songs. After you are done with reading ask yourself how it spoke to you and also how it challenged you.

Why is it important?

When Jesus called us to love our neighbor, he gave us a task that is possible for each one of us and is also a blessing for each one of us. Many people around us might feel isolated or don’t feel a sense of belonging (maybe including us), and each one of us can bring change to that. You will see how loving your neighbor will change those things and also the relationships but also how it will give you a greater love for the people around you. It will leave a great impact and it builds a strong and lasting community for your neighbors and you as well to just name a few things. When I think back to last year and how the pandemic affected everyone around the world we saw more and more 1. the need of bringing God’s love to our local places and 2. How important it is to be connected with our neighbors. We got reminded of the call from Jesus also because our neighborhoods were the only places we could go to. So let’s all do this together starting today to take Jesus seriously and love our neighbor. We will give you a monthly tip with how to establish that relationship and love your neighbors in a practical way and then we will all put it into action with the neighbors right around us.  And then watch how over time your neighborhood will change! You, me, and all of us can do it so let’s do it!!

Our tip for this month is to organize a trash cleanup day together with your neighbors! Watch the video with some tips on that!

How are you?

During the last week we saw again how love is a 2-way street. When we love our neighbors they in return love us back. Over the years we build many wonderful relationships with our neighbors. We were there for them when they needed help like true friends do. The same was true the other way around as well. One of our neighbors has given us a key to their car so we can use it whenever we need to. That enabled us last week to go to a 4th of July bbq. Other times we could take Caleb to Doctor appointments or take him to the zoo. It is such a blessing to have access to a car. We didn’t love our neighbors to get something in return, but if you truly love people without an agenda often that happens. We want to encourage you to love your neighbors without an agenda. Be a friend to them and truly care about their life. And maybe start this week building relationships with the love your neighbor monthly tip by organizing a trash pickup day in your neighborhood!!
